I have just filled the thing with water for now but I thinks sand would be better. It was delivered in a timely manner and does a reasonable job of hold my umbrella down. No real complaints at this time.
Filled with water it would be almost impossible to fall. The Umbrella base fitted perfect. The only problem I have is closing the lid.
Works well with sand or water. I little hard to move when filled with water, but there are wheels at the one side to facilitate. Great price for item compared to anywhere else. Very functional.
It is very good idea to have this big and heavy base for offset umbrella.
The wheels/axle are not very sturdy and one wheel on the end bent a little making the move more difficult. I had to really work on it to get it to close, but was finally successful. Otherwise, the unit functions for its intended purpose very well. The construction how ever had a few issues. I would recommend the unit so long as you heed the above notes. Then, moving it into position after filling was a chore.
Just need to beef up the quality control on the wheels/axle and closing cap a little. The base performs as expected holding the offset umbrella down even in pretty stiff winds. First, the cap to seal the unit once you add either water or sand was very tough and would not close. Should probably put the unit in place and then fill it with your water or sand and not rely on moving if after you do so.
